From Hiding to Shining: My Pageant Journey

For over two decades, I hid behind heavy bangs to conceal a scar on my forehead from an accident when I was three. I lacked confidence in my appearance and rarely dared to speak up in class. But by 25, I was tired of hiding. I wanted to shine, to feel beautiful and confident, and to share what I had to offer the world.

In 2014, I took a leap and entered the ATV Miss Asia US East Coast Pageant.

For two and a half months, I traveled from Boston to New York every weekend for training, events, and interviews for ATV's television station—all while working up to 80 hours a week at my full-time job. I practiced my introduction hundreds of times, learned to walk and stand confidently in six-inch heels, and stepped in front of cameras with my bangs swept away from my forehead. For the first time, I began to see myself differently.

Beyond the competition, we partnered with the NYPD to promote traffic safety through performances and community events. I discovered how powerful it felt to use my voice, connect with people, and represent something bigger than myself.

Then came the grand final: evening gowns, qipaos, interviews, Q&A, and talent performances. My talent was a magic show! When the results were announced, I was named First Runner-Up and Miss Medical Award winner.

In just over two months, I had transformed from a shy woman who hid behind her bangs into someone who could confidently interview important people, command an audience, and embrace the spotlight.

But the greatest prize wasn't a title. It was discovering what I was capable of when I stopped hiding.

That experience ignited a bigger purpose: I wanted to help other women build confidence, find their voices, and use the spotlight to champion causes they believed in.

In 2015, I took another leap of faith. I left my full-time job and began building my own beauty pageant from the ground up—turning my personal transformation into a platform for others to experience theirs.
